It is definitely a slow time of year! We have videos, books, magazines, manikins etc for stylist to watch and work with when it's not busy. we also are really good about helping each other out.We also have a 'chore list' that needs to get done everyday.  But I still need a stylist to be there when everyone is busy, for the walk-in clientele we have. How do I keep them motivated and off facebook?

We have contest for rebooking and referals so it makes us build our books in order to stay busy. We do follow up calls and postcards. I have also done outside marketing and offer free conditioning treatments but I attatch my business cards to something that is appealing to the community (samples)

We have jr stylists in the salon that arent as busy so I schedule them for salon events, just tonite I sent them all to the mall and tomorrow to a concert with a band we do hair for and they get in for free and get to pass out salon flyers. We are also in a busy shopping center so I send them out to talk to people, meet new people but are still close enough they can be right there to take a walk in. I also encourage them to be ON FACEBOOK, posting pictures of their work, talking to people letting them know they have openings and sharing the salon page. I also tell them to shadow the busy stylists, learn from their work and ask questions. I tell them to get involved in the salon talk to clients, help create a good atmosphere and to not look bored. We also have education classes every other week, so I always give them homework to do before the next class. Hope that helps it seems to keep my staff motivated, oh and I make sure to spend at least 10 -20 min a week with each staff member a week asking them how they are and what they would like to be doing. So keeping a constant connection works awesome :)
